ALASKA: San Leandro residents Mike and Rhea Nersesian recently returned from an Alaska vacation that included three days at Katmai National Park, “where we had the privilege of seeing in person the bears at the famous Brooks Falls,” Rhea says, “site of the Explore.org live bear cams and the famous Fat Bear Week!” (And yes, those are bears in the background of that photo >>>>>)

TRAVEL TIPS: “Brooks is open July, August and early September. All reservations in the Brooks Falls lodge are by lottery 18 months ahead — (it) opens Dec. 1 for stays in 2025; https://katmailand.com. There are also campgrounds; reservations open via the Parks Service in January for that same year. Day trips to Brooks via float plane are also available.”
