Death in the stands: Fatal moment in Cleveland game has ironic twists

Washington’s Sherry Robertson is tagged out by Joe DiMaggio in a 1950 game at Griffith Stadium. DiMaggio was playing first base for the first time in his Major League career. Seven years earlier, in the same stadium, Robertson was involved in a fateful throw that hit a fan near first base.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Much has been written about Ray Chapman, the beloved Cleveland Indian who in 1920 became the only player to die as a result of a pitched ball in the majors. But there is a similar case of a fan being killed at a game.
